The verdict came in about three months ago and she has been living under it since, and it was passed in a completely ordinary moment.
She was at the sink. She was not thinking about any of it. And a sentence arrived, fully formed, in her own voice, and the sentence was: you are not the person you thought you were.
There is a thing she has not said. It has been about a year. Everything about it is true, and she has checked it repeatedly, and she is the right person to say it and she knows she is.
She has not said it, and there is no dramatic reason, and that is what has produced the verdict. If there were a reason she could look at it. If she were being threatened, or if she stood to lose her position, there would be something to weigh. There is no threat. There is nothing at stake that she could name in a sentence. It would simply be uncomfortable, and difficult, and it would change some things, and she has not done it.
And so, at the sink, with no warning, the file closed and a judgement was entered.
Here is what has happened since. It has spread. That is the thing about a verdict on the self: it does not stay in the area it was passed about.
She has begun to hear it in other places. In the middle of preparing, a small voice noting that a person who will not say the true thing has no business teaching truth. In a conversation with somebody at their worst moment, a flicker of it, saying: and who are you. It has got into the ordinary work, which was the one place it had no business being, and it has been getting louder since about June.
She has not told anybody about any of this, and the reason is a perfect little trap. To tell somebody she would have to explain the thing she has not said, and explaining it out loud to a person would be about eighty percent of saying it, and she is not able to do that, which is the whole problem.

Five rounds, and no rebuke
There is a conversation in Exodus that goes on far longer than people remember, and the length of it is the point.
God speaks to a man out of a bush and gives him something to do. And the man argues.
He argues about who he is. He argues about what he will say when they ask for a name. He argues about whether anybody will believe him. And then he says this:
I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
And here is what comes back.
Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.Exodus 4:11-12
Notice what God addresses.
Not the courage. Not the character. The mouth. He goes straight to the specific thing the man named, treats it as a real limitation, points out who made it, and then commits Himself to being with it.
And notice what does not happen. There is no rebuke. Not a syllable. The man has now objected four separate times and God has answered every one of them without once suggesting he is unfit.
And then he objects a fifth time, and asks to be let off entirely, and Aaron is given to him, and he goes.
So hear this, at a sink with a verdict in your head: God does not close a file on somebody who is arguing. That is not my leniency; it is what His word actually records over five rounds, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my sentence who takes a long unhurried conversation and puts it under a woman who has sentenced herself in about four seconds.
Now let me get at the verdict itself, because it needs to be looked at squarely.
You are not the person you thought you were. That is what arrived at the sink. And I want to point out something about the way it arrived: fully formed, in your own voice, with no evidence attached, in a moment when you were not even thinking about the subject.
That is not conviction. Conviction is specific, it names an act, and it comes with a road out. What arrived at your sink was a global statement about your identity with no particulars and no exit, delivered in an ambush.
Scripture never once produces that in a person. His word convicts about deeds and it does it in daylight, and the Holy Spirit does not pass sentence on somebody's whole self while they are washing up.
And now the spreading, because that is the part doing the real damage.
It has got into your preparation and your visiting, and that is exactly what a false verdict does: it generalizes, because it has to, because it has no specific ground to stand on. A true conviction stays where it belongs. A false one has to keep expanding to survive.
You have not been disqualified from your ordinary work by a year of not saying one thing. That is not a rule anywhere in Scripture, and the Holy Spirit is not the voice that has been asking who are you in the middle of somebody's worst hour.
And I am not going to tell you to speak. That is between you and God, and this message is complete for a woman who never says it, and nothing here turns your silence into disobedience.
What I am taking off you is a judgement passed by a court that does not exist.
You did not lose it at the sink.
A year of not saying one difficult thing has not made you a different person, and it certainly has not disqualified the ordinary daily work that has nothing to do with it.
The verdict is not from God. It arrived without evidence, without particulars, without a way out, and it has been expanding ever since, and none of that is how He speaks to anybody.
And the file is not closed. The one long conversation Scripture gives us about a person hesitating goes five rounds, includes an explicit request to be let off, and ends with the man supplied rather than replaced.
Nothing here asks you to speak. Whatever happens with that sentence, tonight the sentence about you is being struck out, and it should never have been entered.
You are not on your own with your mouth, and you never were, including in all the months you said nothing. It is written, now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak (Exodus 4:12), said to a man who had just listed his reasons for not going. The Holy Spirit is the One who is with a person's mouth, and He was there through the silence too.
Declare this over yourself
Say these out loud, with your hand where it is. Not one line here is my idea about you. Every one of them stands on His word, and it is the Holy Spirit and never the wording who makes a spoken sentence land in a person. The authority in them was given to you by Christ, who is in you, and it does not run out when you do. Speak to the thing, not about it. And whatever He does with the word I am carrying, He does in His own way and His own time.
- Verdict I passed on myself for not having spoken, you are not a judgment and you have no court. Exodus 4 shows a man objecting five separate times and being answered every time without one syllable of rebuke.
- Voice that asks who are you in the middle of somebody's worst hour, in the name of Jesus you are put out of this kitchen. A true conviction names an act and comes with a road out, and a thing with no particulars has to keep expanding in order to survive.
- God, You are the One who made the mouth and said I will be with thy mouth, and You went to the exact limitation the man named. Your Spirit does not sentence a person's whole self at a sink, and I did not lose nine years on a Wednesday.
